ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR TGR AT DAKAR 2024: A Roaring Start to the Ultimate Desert Duel

The 2024 Dakar Rally is upon us, and Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) is ready go! With a fleet of five GR IMT Hilux EVO T1U race cars, TGR is not just participating, they’re set to conquer the dunes and dust of Saudi Arabia.

Picture this: five magnificent machines, gleaming under the Saudi sun, engines purring like a pack of desert lions ready to pounce. That’s the scene at TGR’s camp, as their squad of Hilux EVOs has passed every check and trial thrown at them. These cars have been poked, prodded, and pushed to their limits, emerging not just unscathed but hungry for the rally.

The technical tango wasn’t just a dance for the cars. The crews, decked out in their racing finery, have been through the wringer too – safety checks, gear inspections, you name it. And let’s not forget the shakedown sessions where each Hilux was given the green light, after some sneaky last-minute tweaks to the dampers. Crafty, TGR, very crafty.

Next on the agenda is the prologue, a teaser of the epic drama to unfold. This isn’t just a jaunt through the desert; it’s a high-stakes sprint to determine who leads the charge into the heart of the rally. With a liaison of 130 km and a timed stage of 28 km, it’s a mini-marathon in itself. And for the top 10? Well, they get to draw straws (figuratively) for their starting positions. The rest? They start as they finish. Fair’s fair.

The route itself is a rollercoaster of sand, speed, and endurance. Kicking off in Alula, it zigzags southeast, with a well-deserved rest day smack dab in the middle. Then it’s back to Alula for a brief hello and off to the coastal finale in Yanbu. It’s not just a race; it’s an odyssey.

And what does TGR’s team principal, Shameer Variawa, have to say? “Fantastic to be back on Saudi soil…excited to go racing…full confidence in our crews and cars…” That’s the spirit, Shameer! Confidence is key, and it sounds like TGR has it in spades.

The crew lineup is nothing short of stellar – Lucas Moraes and Armand Monleon in car 206, Giniel de Villiers and Dennis Murphy in 209, Seth Quintero and Dennis Zenz in 216, Saood Variawa and Francois Cazalet in 226, and Guy Botterill and Brett Cummings in 243. It’s like the Avengers of rally racing, each duo ready to tackle the unforgiving terrain with gusto.

So, here’s to TGR’s teams – may your engines be powerful, your navigation spot on, and your spirits unbreakable. The 2024 Dakar Rally awaits, and the world watches with bated breath. It’s more than a race; it’s a test of mettle, machine, and might. All systems go, TGR. Give ’em hell!
