Hyundai’s Grand i10 Gets a Stylish Facelift and Introduces its Sedan Counterpart

Furthermore, the Korean automaker has expanded the range by introducing the Grand i10 Sedan, a welcome addition for those seeking a bit more room and elegance.

The third-generation Grand i10 retains its options of two petrol engines: the zippy 3-cylinder 1.0-liter engine or the more robust 1.2-liter 4-cylinder powerhouse. Meanwhile, only the latter engine will be powering the sedan variants. Both engines are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, with the 1.2-liter also offering a 4-speed automatic transmission option, ensuring smooth power delivery to the front wheels.

Stanley Anderson, the Director of Sales, Operations, and Commercial Vehicles at Hyundai Automotive South Africa, shared his insights on the Grand i10’s evolution: “Hyundai’s top-seller in South Africa has already established itself as a solid and reliable hatchback model with an impressive list of features and outstanding fuel economy. This time the designers have given the Grand i10 an attractive mid-life make-over, while retaining the well-rounded package that this model has become known for.”

Anderson further praised the design team’s efforts: “As we have seen over quite some time with Hyundai’s models, the designers have done an excellent job with the new Grand i10. It makes the impression of a bigger car, and it certainly feels like one with its impressive handling and road manners.”

Bold New Exterior Styling for the Grand i10 Hatchback

The most noticeable change to the Grand i10 hatchback comes in the form of a larger and wider honeycomb grille that replaces the hexagonal-shaped grille of the previous generation. This new grille design extends almost the entire width of the front section, lending the car a sense of increased size and stance.

Enhancing the front end even further are the boomerang-shaped daytime running lights found on the outer edges of the grille for the Fluid versions. These alterations result in a cleaner and more sophisticated front fascia.

The rear of the Grand i10 hatchback has also undergone a mild makeover, which has rendered a sleeker and more appealing rear view compared to its predecessor. The horizontal lines have been straightened out, and the rear lights have been reconfigured for a more harmonious appearance.

Although the side profile remains largely unchanged, there are updates to mention, including new 15-inch alloy wheels for the Fluid variants and fresh 14-inch styled wheel covers for the Motion versions.

The refreshed Grand i10 offers six exterior color choices, including Typhoon Silver, Titan Gray, Fiery Red, Phantom Black, Atlas White, and a striking new Spark Green. Additionally, the Fluid specification level is available with a black roof option for the Phantom White, Fiery Red, and Spark Green Grand i10s.

Interior Design and Features

The interior design of both the hatchback and the sedan versions boasts a range of features and slight differences in color themes. The hatchback’s interior is all black, while the sedan combines black and grey elements on the front dashboard and inner door trims.

Both versions share black cloth seats with red detailing on the air vents and seats across all variants. Equipped with an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment center compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both Fluid and Motion derivatives offer modern connectivity. Standard features include a manual air conditioner, electric window-openers, and outer rear-view mirror adjusters.

One notable feature is the infotainment screen displaying a rear-view camera feed when the vehicle is in reverse gear – a standard feature across the range.

Engine Options and Performance

The Grand i10 range offers two engine options – a 998 cc 3-cylinder engine and a slightly larger 1,197 cc Kappa 4-cylinder engine. The 1.0-liter engine, found in both the Motion and Fluid hatchback derivatives, delivers 48.5 kW peak power at 5,500 rpm and 94 Nm maximum torque at 3,500 rpm. On the other hand, the 1.2-liter engine – powering the Motion and Fluid versions, as well as the sedan – achieves its peak power of 61 kW at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

Even at higher altitudes, the 1.0-liter engine impresses with its power delivery through the 5-speed manual gearbox. A 4-speed automatic gearbox is available for both the 1.2-liter Motion and Fluid hatchback derivatives, as well as the sedan.

Fuel efficiency figures for the Grand i10 hatchback with the 1.0-liter engine and 5-speed manual transmission are measured at 5.5 liters per 100 km. Equipping the same engine with the 4-speed automatic gearbox yielded a consumption rate of 5.9 liters per 100 km in a combined city and open-road driving scenario.

The 1.2-liter Grand i10 Fluid, paired with the manual 5-speed transmission, reported a fuel consumption rate of 5.9 liters per 100 km, while the 4-speed automatic gearbox variant registered 6.9 liters per 100 km. The Grand i10 sedan, when equipped with the manual version, achieved an average fuel consumption of 5.5 liters per 100 km, and 5.7 liters per 100 km for the automatic.

Safety and Pricing

Safety features are a priority across the Grand i10 range, with driver and front passenger airbags, ISOFIX child seat attachments, and pretensioners for the front seat occupants’ seat belts. The models also include an Advanced Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) as standard.
