Mr. Kevin Fouche, the Department Executive for Product Planning and Programme Management at ISUZU Motors South Africa, shared insights into the rationale behind this expansion: “The introduction of the new entry-level 1.9-litre model significantly broadens the appeal of the mu-X. It perfectly caters to customers who seek the remarkable space, comfort, and versatility that our renowned SUV offers, while also prioritizing affordability and reduced operational costs.”
The debut of the mu-X 1.9 LS marks a milestone, as it is the first instance of ISUZU offering this model with the proven 1.9-litre Ddi engine at this competitive price point. Fouche elaborated on the timing of this launch, considering the continuously growing SUV market: “With the ongoing surge in demand for SUVs, we believe this addition is impeccably timed. The attractively priced 1.9 LS model becomes a compelling proposition for families transitioning from sedans, hatchbacks, or bakkies. Furthermore, we have full confidence that the exceptional fuel economy of the established 1.9-litre engine will be a key selling point.”

At the heart of the new mu-X 1.9 LS resides ISUZU’s proven 1,899 cc four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine, already recognized for its robust performance, outstanding fuel efficiency, and unmatched durability. The engine owes its capabilities to advanced engineering, which encompasses a high-pressure common rail direct injection system and a high-efficiency variable geometry turbocharger. Generating a robust power output of 110 kW at 3,600 r/min and an impressive torque of 350 Nm, available from 1,800 to 2,600 r/min, the 1.9 Ddi engine delivers a confident and efficient driving experience.
Continuing the trend set by the rest of the mu-X lineup, the 1.9 LS variant benefits from ISUZU’s latest six-speed automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth and seamless driving encounter. An added advantage comes in the form of a standard rear differential lock, designed to enhance traction on challenging surfaces.
From a design perspective, the new mu-X 1.9 LS presents a contemporary look with the incorporation of the latest styling updates introduced to the range for 2023. These updates encompass privacy glass for rear windows, an eye-catching Norwegian Blue color option, and sophisticated dark Magnetite finishes on key exterior elements such as the radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, front fog lamp bezels, roof rails, and side steps. Contributing to both style and safety, modern LED lighting features prominently in the daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlamps, fog lamps, and combination tail lights. The sporty appeal of the mu-X is further underscored by its attractive 18-inch alloy wheels, accompanied by a full-size alloy spare wheel for added peace of mind.

Standard leather trim adds a touch of luxury, with eight-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat and four-way adjustment for the front passenger seat.
Notably, despite its affordability, the mu-X 1.9 LS retains ISUZU’s commitment to safety and convenience. Front and rear parking sensors, in combination with a rear-view camera, facilitate effortless parking maneuvers. The comprehensive package of safety features encompasses Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control, ABS brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist System (BAS), Brake Override Accelerator (BOA), Hill Start Assist (HAS), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Trailer Sway Control, and Cruise Control.
In terms of occupant protection, the mu-X 1.9 LS showcases a comprehensive array of airbags, including driver and front passenger airbags, front seat side airbags, curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag. The vehicle’s security is equally robust, thanks to features like remote central locking, a factory-fitted anti-theft alarm system, transponder immobilizer, and selectable door unlocking.
