Local hero seeks home victory
Local hero Kalle Rovanperä is gearing up for an epic battle in his quest for a maiden Secto Rally Finland triumph. Having already secured one world title and inching closer to a second FIA World Rally Championship crown, Rovanperä is undoubtedly on cloud nine. However, there’s one thing missing from his illustrious resume – a victory on home turf.
This week, the rollercoaster roads of Jyväskylä will witness Rovanperä’s determination and talent as he takes on the ninth round of the global rally series. Dominating last month’s Rally Estonia on high-speed terrain, Rovanperä is all set to put on a spectacular show for the fans and secure a victory that has eluded him until now.
Zooming through gravel roads at mind-boggling speeds of over 200kph amidst Finland’s breathtaking forests and lakes is no easy feat. Perfectly delivered pace notes are the key to success, and co-drivers will be working hard to guide their drivers through the challenging blind crests and hairpin turns.
For Rovanperä and his Toyota Gazoo Racing squad, this event is more than just a rally; it’s a homecoming. With their base just outside the host city, the entire team is fueled by the excitement and support of their home crowd. Team principal Jari-Matti Latvala, who comes out of retirement for his 210th WRC rally, will be driving an additional GR Yaris car, adding to the team’s enthusiasm.
Hyundai Motorsport’s Esapekka Lappi, the last Finn to conquer Rally Finland in 2017, is back with his eyes set on victory, along with teammate Teemu Suninen and runner-up at the previous round, Thierry Neuville.
Ott Tänak, who stood atop the Finland podium in 2022, is determined to repeat that feat, making a strong comeback after a time penalty dashed his chances in the previous rally. The Estonian will be burning rubber in his M-Sport Ford Puma alongside teammate Pierre-Louis Loubet.
The action-packed rally will commence in Jyväskylä on Thursday evening and conclude on Sunday afternoon after a grueling test of 22 stages, covering an impressive 320.56km.
All eyes are on Rovanperä as he embarks on a journey to rewrite history on his home turf. The excitement is palpable, and the fans are roaring with anticipation. Will Kalle Rovanperä finally conquer Secto Rally Finland and etch his name into the record books? We can’t wait to find out! So, buckle up and get ready for a thrilling ride through the Finnish forests as we cheer on our local hero on his quest for glory. Go, Rovanperä, go!
