Pricing Announced for New Ford Ranger Wildtrak X, Elevates Capability with More Tech and Tools for Off-Road Adventures
South Africa, 11 October 2023 – The wild heart of off-road enthusiasts is about to be set ablaze with the arrival of Ford’s new Ranger Wildtrak X. This rugged and ready beast, priced at R1 013 000 (including VAT), is equipped to tackle the toughest terrains and elevate your outdoor adventures to new heights. With a unique long-travel suspension featuring Bilstein dampers, advanced off-road driver assistance systems, and a bold new style, the Wildtrak X is a true force to be reckoned with.
Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa, states, “The Ranger Wildtrak range has been immensely popular in South Africa for more than a decade due to its trend-setting style, peerless status, innovative suite of driver assistance technologies, and exceptional performance. With the Wildtrak X, we’re giving this prized nameplate a more muscular character and even greater off-road capability, enabling our customers to push the boundaries of an active, outdoor lifestyle.”
Unleashing Off-Road Potential
The Wildtrak X builds on the robust foundation of the Ranger Wildtrak, offering a perfect transition to more extreme off-road adventures without compromising on luxury and safety. It boasts a 30mm wider stance for enhanced stability off-road, while ground clearance has been elevated by 26mm, allowing for confident traversal of challenging terrains.
To achieve this boost in performance, Ford engineers have outfitted the Wildtrak X with new-design 17-inch alloys wrapped in 265/70 R17 General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tires with distinctive white lettering. Additionally, the vehicle comes equipped with specially tuned Bilstein Position-Sensitive Dampers that ensure steady performance across various terrains.
Mashinini emphasizes, “We’re ensuring they don’t need to do this by giving them what they need right out of the factory.”
Innovative Flexible Rack System
One of the standout features of the Wildtrak X is its segment-first Flexible Rack System, available as an option. This ingenious system includes a sliding load rack that can be locked into five positions along the length of the load bed and folding roof racks that store inside the roof rails when not in use. This versatile system can be operated by a single person without the need for additional tools, making it an essential tool for adventurers.
The Wildtrak X also retains the overhead auxiliary switch pack, which allows for the seamless attachment of aftermarket accessories. This panel, mounted in the headliner above the rear-view mirror, connects to a distribution box and six pre-wired circuits around the vehicle for easy powering of accessories such as external lights and compressors.
Innovative Off-Road Features
The Wildtrak X is equipped with seven driving modes, covering both everyday and off-road driving needs, including Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. Furthermore, it boasts a comprehensive suite of driver assistance and safety systems, including Active Park Assist, Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert and Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera as standard.
Two unique off-road tools, Trail Turn Assist and Trail Control, are game-changers for off-road enthusiasts. Trail Turn Assist reduces the turning radius by up to 25 percent when making tight turns off-road, and Trail Control helps maintain a constant low speed while navigating challenging terrain.
Tough Exterior, Bespoke Interior
Externally, the Wildtrak X receives a fresh design overhaul, featuring an off-road grille with integrated auxiliary driving lights and Cyber Orange accents, a steel bash plate, cast aluminum side steps, Wildtrak X badges, black Ford oval badges, and distinctive black ‘WILDTRAK’ lettering across the bonnet. The asphalt black finish enhances the rugged aesthetic of this off-road powerhouse.
Inside, the Wildtrak X boasts accented leather seats with Miko suede trim, adorned with Wildtrak X embroidery, Terra suede details, and Cyber Orange contrast stitching, creating a high-tech, comfortable, and visually striking interior. The cabin centers around an eight-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 12-inch touchscreen controlling Ford’s SYNC 4A infotainment system. It also offers wireless device charging and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, the Wildtrak X is powered by Ford’s efficient 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine, producing 154kW of power and 500Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a responsive 10-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the Wildtrak X is the first Ranger 2.0L Bi-Turbo model to be available with Ford’s on-demand four-wheel drive system, offering four modes, including 4A (automatic), 2H, 4H, and 4L, for various driving conditions.
Pricing and Warranty
The Ranger Wildtrak X is priced at R1 013 000 (including VAT). Customers will also benefit from Ford Protect, which comprises a four-year/120,000km warranty, four-year/unlimited distance Roadside Assistance, and a five-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty. The recommended service interval is 15,000km or annually, with the option to purchase service or maintenance plans up to eight years or 135,000km. The warranty can be extended up to seven years or 200,000km, while Roadside Assistance can be extended for an additional one or two years.
