The lineage of Audi’s high-performance models has evolved over the years, culminating in the exceptional RS 6 Avant Performance and RS 7 Sportback Performance. It all began with a vision at quattro GmbH, now known as Audi Sport GmbH. The “plus” variants, later succeeded by the “performance” models, have consistently adhered to a philosophy that emphasizes maximum driving dynamics, unimpeded daily usability, and a distinctive identity. As the successor of the Audi S6, the S6 plus marked the beginning of this journey, introducing enthusiasts to a fusion of exhilaration and functionality. This ethos continued with the RS family, epitomized by the RS 4 Avant and RS 6 Avant, vehicles that set the standard for sports wagons and performance.
The RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback Performance models of today are the culmination of Audi’s dedication to sportiness. The 4.0-liter V8 biturbo TFSI engine delivers an astonishing 630 PS and a torque of 850 Nm. These numbers translate to incredible acceleration, with the RS 6 Avant Performance reaching 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and the RS 7 Sportback Performance achieving it in a mere 3.6 seconds. These machines don’t just boast power; they also exemplify Audi’s commitment to crafting vehicles with meticulous attention to detail, from the characteristic exterior design to the luxurious interior appointments.

A noteworthy tribute to the heritage of these performance models is the inclusion of white analog dials in the interior. This nostalgic touch, inspired by the original Audi Avant RS2 from 1994 and the Audi S6 plus from 1996, serves as a nod to the brand’s roots and the driving excitement they represent.
As the automotive landscape embraces electrification, Audi Sport GmbH remains resolute in preserving the DNA that has defined their RS models. Steffen Bamberger, Head of Technical Development at Audi Sport GmbH, affirms that the driving characteristics that distinguish RS vehicles will persist in the electric era. The focus will continue to be on distinctive design, dynamic performance, and an emotive driving experience. Bamberger’s assurance that “RS models will still offer drivers great fun behind the wheel when electrified” echoes Audi’s commitment to marrying innovation with the pure joy of driving.
The Audi S6 plus marked the entry point into vehicle development for what is today Audi Sport GmbH.
In conclusion, from the inception of the Audi S6 plus to the current RS 6 Avant Performance and RS 7 Sportback Performance, Audi Sport GmbH’s journey has been one of continuous innovation, blending sportiness with everyday practicality. These models are not just vehicles; they are an embodiment of the passion for driving, a tribute to heritage, and a bold step into the electrified future. As the automotive world evolves, the legacy of sportiness continues to thrive within the Audi RS lineup.
