The heart of the TGRSA team beats within their locally crafted Toyota Starlet rally cars, meticulously groomed to perfection for the demanding challenges that await them in Tzaneen. Fresh off their triumph at the Algoa Rally, the team is poised to surge forward, building on their previous successes and pushing the boundaries of performance.
At the forefront of this motorsport symphony are the dynamic duo of Jono van Wyk and his co-driver Nico Swartz. Van Wyk, affectionately known as the “Swazi Cowboy,” has etched his name onto the championship’s annals with his consistent displays of speed and skill. His synchronization with navigator Nico Swartz has proven to be a match forged in racing heaven, and together, they are determined to conquer the multifaceted challenges that define the NTT Tzaneen Rally.
Sharing the limelight are the spirited teammates Mandla Mdakane and co-driver Kes Naidoo. Despite grappling with mechanical tribulations earlier in the season, Mdakane’s impressive showing at the Algoa Rally illuminated his potential as a burgeoning star in the NRC constellation. Bolstered by the unwavering support of the technical crew, Mdakane and Naidoo are set to ascend to even greater heights.
The rally’s rhythm will crescendo on Friday, August 25, with Round 5 of the 2023 NRC. A spirited dance of seven special stages, including two captivating town stages under the cloak of night, promises to infuse the event with an extra dose of thrill. The crescendo continues on Saturday with Round 6, as six spellbinding special stages unfold, culminating in an electrifying finale at the Tzaneen show grounds.
